The Mechanics of Fire: A Gentle Guide to Candle Care

The Mechanics of Fire: A Gentle Guide to Candle Care

Preventing the Tunnel

To get the most out of your CÆSVRA vessel, the first burn is important. We recommend letting it burn uninterrupted until the entire surface layer of wax has liquefied into a beautiful, mirrored pool—typically three to four hours. This simple step helps prevent 'tunneling', where the wax burns straight down the middle. Exercising a little patience at the beginning ensures hours of perfect enjoyment later on.

Caring for the Wick

A well-maintained flame is calm and even. Before lighting your candle, we gently suggest trimming the cotton wick to about five millimeters. This prevents the flame from becoming too large or smoking the glass. When it’s time to extinguish the candle, blowing it out can sometimes introduce unwanted smoke into your carefully curated room. Instead, we love using a wick dipper to briefly submerge the flame into the molten wax, extinguishing it quietly and cleanly.
